Object Relations theory postulates that people are driven to get their social and relational needs met (versus the Freudian view that people are driven by sexual and aggressive needs). Object Relations theorists see symptoms as resulting from a lack of psychological development (immaturity), primarily caused by a lack of “good enough” parenting in early childhood.
